Director for the Epigenomics and DNA Sequencing Core Facility Staff Scientist

Job Summary

The Epigenetics & Stem Cell Biology Laboratory (ESCBL) of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Research Triangle Park, North Carolina is recruiting a Director for the Epigenomics and DNA Sequencing Core Facility. The mission of NIEHS is to discover how the environment affects people in order to promote healthier lives. In support of this mission, ESCBL investigates fundamental mechanisms by which epigenetics — non-genetic modulation and alterations — influences chromatin architecture, transcription and gene expression in normal, cancer and stem cells, and provides insights into biological processes that modulate the effects of environmental exposures on human development and health: https://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/atniehs/labs/escbl/index.cfm.

The Epigenomics and DNA sequencing core facility in ESCBL provides NIEHS investigators on-site quick access to next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, such as RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, Cut&Tag/Run, WGS, WGBS, scRNA-seq, scMultiome, Spatial transcriptomics, CITE-seq, Perturb-seq, Nanopore RNA and DNA sequencing, and PacBio sequencing, in order to address their research questions (https://junction.niehs.nih.gov/divisions/dir/resources/dna/dna-epi/index.htm).

We are seeking a Ph.D.-level scientist with comprehensive understanding of and experience with NGS and related technologies to direct and manage the core facility. The director will be a NIH employee appointed to a time-limited, renewable position to support the long-term research of the Epigenomics and DNA sequencing core facility.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain standard operation protocols
  • Establish new or customized NGS methods and applications
  • Manage and supervise core personnel
  • Provide technical consultations to NIEHS investigators
  • Establish contracts and partnerships with commercial vendors

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in molecular biology or related fields with 3+ years of postdoctoral experience is required
  • Knowledge and experience in NGS and genomics technologies, as demonstrated by relevant publications, is required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required
  • Experience with different NGS platforms (Illumina, Nanopore, PacBio, etc.), laboratory automation, epigenetics, or genetics is strongly preferred
  • Experience in leadership, management and teamwork is highly desired

The successful candidate for this position will be appointed at a salary commensurate with experience and accomplishments with full Federal benefits.
